In the end of March many of our MCM group visited the „Yayoi Kusama Solo Exhebition – A dream I dreamed“ in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai.

The artist Yayoi Kusama is one of the most important living artists in Japan and also one very famous contemporary artist worldwide. The exhibition in Shanghai showed her representative works as well as her recent works, which demonstrates Kusama’s vigorous creativity. Kusama’s work is based in conceptual art and shows some attributes of feminism, minimalism, surrealism, Art Brut, pop art, and abstract expressionism, and is infused with autobiographical, psychological, and sexual content. Kusama is also a published novelist and poet, and has created notable work in film and fashion design.

Not all of us are very interested in art, but this exhibition was interesting for everyone! Yayoi Kusama’s pictures and sculptures are very colorful and modern. Especially her installation with thousands of colorful spots was our favorite. In this colorful bedroom you feel like you would dream, but everyone is dreaming its own dream here in the middle of Shanghai!
